1. Your website is where your business resides — it’s like the headquarters of an offline company. Hence, it is important to practice good design principles to make sure your site reaches out to the maximum number of visitors and sells to as many people as possible.
2. Want them to stay? Keep it Simple. — Seriously, keep it simple. You can’t have people spending more than a couple of seconds trying to find what they are looking for. It will kill your business and the amount of time someone spends on your site.
3. Easy on the Pictures, my friend — Not everyone has the super-duper broadband connection that you have. People that don’t have it will have a problem loading your page that has 72 pictures on it. Cut it to 1 or 2 that are most important and make sure they are shrunk down to the proper size.

5. All the browsers need to be able to show your site — Explorer and Firefox are two of the biggest browsers, but there are more. Check out w3.org and make sure your site will work the same on each browser. It probably will, but it doesn’t hurt to check.
6. Don’t fall in love with scripts — I would say just stay away from them all together. They slow the loading of your site way, way down. Remember, keep things very simple. You don’t always need all the fancy flashing lights. Let people find what they are looking for.
